Jim Dine Hearts Art Lesson

For this Valentine'south Twenty-four hour period, why not explore your inner Pop Artist with a Jim Dine inspired painted heart.

Jim Dine is an American Popular Artist who was born in Cincinnati Ohio in 1935.  He is currently 81 years old.  He is known for his paintings, drawings, sculptures and printmaking.

His artwork was included in an fine art exhibition in 1962 that was considered one of the first "Popular Fine art" exhibitions in America.  Included in this exhibition were other Pop Artists, such every bit Andy Warhol.

The Pop Art movement shocked America and the art earth and helped shape the nature of modern art.

In this art projection, we will use tempera paint and a heart stencil to create a painted heart inspired by Jim Dine's Confetti Heart.  We'll telephone call it Pop Eye! 😉

Supplies needed for this project are:

  • Tempera paint (or acrylic paint) – basic colors including blackness.
  • Canvas or canvas lath
  • Paint brushes in varied sizes
  • Masking tape
  • Palette for mixing paint
  • Construction paper
  • Pair of scissors

The first step is to create a small frame past lining the outer edges of your canvas with masking tape.

Next, it's time to create your painted background.  Squeeze out a small diverseness of colors and fill your rectangular background shape with random brushstrokes of color.

Make sure to wash your brush between colors to keep your colors brilliant and clean.

One time your entire background is covered with paint, let it to dry out completely.

At present it's time to create your centre stencil.  Fold your piece of construction paper in one-half and cut out a eye shape that volition fit inside your background.

Apply a few pieces of tape to the back of your eye to concur it in identify and place your heart in the heart of your painting.

Next, apply black paint effectually the entire edge of the heart stencil.  One time you've gone around the unabridged heart, proceed calculation black paint along the edges of the background as well.
